Released in 2017, Purgatory is the debut studio album from Kentucky singer-songwriter Tyler Childers and a landmark of modern Americana. Produced by Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson, the album draws on Appalachian country, bluegrass and folk, with Childers' distinctive voice and vivid storytelling bringing the people, places and characters of his Eastern Kentucky upbringing into sharp focus. Songs including Feathered Indians, Whitehouse Road and Lady May helped establish Childers as one of the defining voices of contemporary country music.
This 180g 1LP black vinyl edition was released through Hickman Holler Records and features the album's complete ten-track sequence, with a printed inner sleeve and digital download included. From the restless opening of I Swear (To God) through the reflective Lady May, Purgatory balances traditional Appalachian influences with a contemporary, deeply personal songwriting style.
