Sonic Youth - Evol (Reissue LP)

Originally released in 1986, EVOL is the third studio album from New York's Sonic Youth and a pivotal record in the band's transition from their early no wave experiments towards the alternative rock sound that would define their later work. It was the first Sonic Youth album to feature drummer Steve Shelley, whose playing helped bring greater structure and momentum to the band's abrasive guitars, feedback and unconventional tunings. Tracks such as Tom Violence, Shadow Of A Doubt and Star Power capture the group at their most exploratory and uncompromising.

This 2015 remastered/reissue pressing is presented as a 1LP on black vinyl and features the complete nine-track sequence. From the jagged opening of Tom Violence through to the sprawling Expressway To Yr. Skull, EVOL documents a crucial point in Sonic Youth's development, balancing noise, experimentation and emerging melodic sensibilities in a record that would become highly influential on the alternative and indie scenes that followed.
