Originally released in 1975, Horses is Patti Smith's groundbreaking debut and one of the defining records of New York's early punk movement. Produced by John Cale, the album combines raw rock 'n' roll, poetry and avant-garde experimentation, with Smith's fiercely expressive vocals and free-form lyrics giving the record an intensity unlike anything else of its era. Widely regarded as one of the most influential punk albums ever made, Horses helped establish Smith as a pioneering figure in alternative music.
This National Album Day 2025 Dapple Grey edition uses the original master rather than the new 50th Anniversary remaster featured on the 2LP edition. Pressed on distinctive dapple-grey coloured vinyl, it presents the original eight-track album in its classic sequence, including Gloria: In Excelsis Deo, Redondo Beach, Birdland and the epic Land.
