Released in 2019, U.F.O.F. is the third studio album from Big Thief, and a defining record in the Brooklyn band's evolution. Recorded at Bear Creek Studios in rural Washington with producer Andrew Sarlo, the album captures the group performing together in a cabin-like space, giving its intimate folk songwriting an atmospheric, occasionally otherworldly quality.
Led by Adrianne Lenker's intensely personal vocals and songwriting, U.F.O.F. moves between hushed acoustic passages, raw guitar textures and moments of unexpected sonic abstraction. From the haunting title track and Cattails to the gentle Terminal Paradise and Magic Dealer, it is an emotionally rich and quietly experimental album that helped establish Big Thief as one of the most distinctive bands in contemporary indie music.
